LEARN MOREMiddlesex University London is excited to introduce the British Council Early Career Fellowships for the 2025/26 academic year. A total of 8 fully funded post-doctoral early career researchers will be selected to conduct research in Artificial Intelligence (AI) or STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) fields as visiting fellows from either South Korea or the Philippines.Fellows are expected to commence their roles between October 2025 and March 2026, contingent upon their visa application status.

To express initial interest (EoI), send a complete CV to Prof. Xiaohong W. Gao with "Fellowships" as the subject line, including a brief description of proposed research related to the specified areas.
There are 6 to 8 fellowships available, each lasting 12 months, with a minimum of 3 fellows from each country (South Korea or the Philippines).
MusYou must consent to your personal data being shared with the British Council, which will work jointly with Middlesex University London to allocate the Fellowships.
XIAOHONG GAO
Prof. Gao was a coordinator for an EU FP7 funded project (WIDTH 2011-2014) for a Marie-Curie International Research Staff Exchange Scheme (IRSES) with 11 partners from both Europe and Asia, involving training and networking early-stage researchers. She has examined 5 PhD theses for South Asia cohort (2008-2021) and was an external examiner for an MSc programme at the University of Mauritius in Mauritius (2019-2021). Three of 6 PhD students she is currently supervising/co-supervising are females with two coming from the South Asia cohort.
KELLY ANDROUTSOPOULOS
Dr. Androutsopoulos (TR03) is a Senior Lecturer and specializes in static analysis algorithms, finite state machines and software engineering. She is a recipient of a prestigious award (CAPE) from Advance HE for supporting students with mixed learning ability and has experience supervising both Erasmus Traineeship and KTP grants. She is the founder and the leader of Women in Computing group and has led female students participating in a number of national events (two received People’s Choice Award at the BCS Lovelace Colloquium). She is also in charge of running annual Employability lecture series at Middlesex.
SERENGUL SMITH
Dr. Smith is an Associate Professor and specializes in Human Computer Interface and User Experience Design. She is currently director of Computer Science undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, e.g. Computer Science and Data Science MSc programmes. She is the module leader on Postgraduate Work Experience and responsible for allocating students to find a placement and has rich experiment in providing advice on students’ future careers.
